The Opus Cineris 2023 Limited Edition Harmonic nibs are individually handcrafted 14k gold nibs, designed, cut, shaped, tipped, slit, finished and ground by Anabelle Hiller. The Harmonic is a unique, layered nib, that is forged from a single piece of gold.

This nib series is named after an acoustic phenomenon of waves and frequencies that, through layering on top of its fundamental, create the very sound characteristics we're surrounded by. This nib also achieves its particular qualia of writing feel from its layered design, allowing support to the structure, while not losing any of the material's inherent softness.

This is the second batch of Anabelle's unique nib series, limited to a number of 10 nibs. They come fitted into stunning, hand-turned, blue ebonite pens by Dutch pen makers and Anabelle's good friends Giants' Pens.

Due to the nature of the creation process, no nib will look exactly alike. Each nib will be ground to the desired size and grind by Anabelle after an order has been placed. Note: the completion of these orders may take several weeks, depending on the demand.

The Harmonic Nib Series

Materials

A nib’s material can greatly impact the general feel and softness of your fountain pen. Most common metals used are steel and gold, followed by titanium and palladium. With her new nib design, Anabelle has added sterling silver to the list of potential nib materials.

Customization

When a nib is handmade, just about anything is possible, design-wise. From various textured or polished finishes, to hand engraved motifs all the way to precisely set gemstones..

Size

A nib’s size is generally measured by the diameter of its feed in mm. Most common sizes would be the smaller Nr. 5s, standard nr. 6s and bombastic nr. 8s. By default, Anabelle mostly work with nr. 6 sized feeds, but anything is possible provided one can find a feed and housing to make it work.

Grind

The final touch, and most commonly manipulated part of a nib is its tipping. Anabelle has sourced her own rather unconventional tipping material that won’t grind like many others, yet that final grind is what will give the owner’s handwriting that very last bit of character.
